Shoe Stop: What We Love

The Flat
Tory Burch "Reva" Jelly. We love how this cute jelly slip-on flat is perfect for a day-at-the-beach summer wardrobe. This shoe comes in a variety of colors: purple, yellow, hot pink, red...
A perfect pop of color for a shorts-and-tank top ensemble!

The Flat Sandal
Kate Spade's Freda sandal has sunny colors and a cool embellishment that adds flair to the simple structure of the shoe. A+!

The Gladiator Sandal
"Ella" by Pour la Victoire is great. Why we love it? Because it's different from all the other tons of typical gladiators out there. The snakeskin texture look, ruffles, and color all make this one so unique and so totally amazing!

The High-Heeled Sandal
Your pointy-toed black patent leather pumps are much too heavy for the hotter summer months. Try lightening up a business outfit with a lighter shade on your feet. We like the Truffle platform heel by Steve Madden. It's a little too high for walking in our opinion, but once again, the unique color and ruffles give it flair and style!

The Wedge
Watch the height with wedges--a huge, thick wedge can be very difficult to walk in! Keep an eye out for the texture of the heel-for summer, you'll want to go for cork and woven heels. Make sure that your wedge doesn't have too much hardware on it. Excessive straps and buckles can be obnoxious, which is why we love the Boutique Nordstrom "Trina" Wedge: it's cute and simple!

High-Waisted Skirts

...Are simple, classy, elegant, fun, chic, and in fashion. Able to be dressed up or dressed down, high-waisted skirts work in summer, spring, fall or winter. Here are some seasonal tips, how to wear the style, and some of our favorites:

For spring, go for flirty florals, bright colors and patterns. Instead of a tight-fitting pencil skirt, try to find something that flows away from the body. Remember to keep it light! Color palette: pink, green, yellow, orange, blue, purple...Bright, vibrant, fun!

For summer, keep it cool with light solids a
nd the same gauzy, light material that works in spring, too. Mix and match with your favorite tanks, sandals, and sunglasses, and you've got a totally cute look for the beach! Color palette: khaki, red, blue, purple, orange, pink, yellow

For fall, look for warmer colors (like the classic autumn reds and browns) and more textured fabric like tweed or silk. Color palette: Camel, red, brown, black, orange, charcoal. Knits are perfect!

Winter is the perfect season for a pencil skirt that slims the waist and lengthens legs when combined with a perfect pump and a blouse. A dark brown, black, charcoal, or navy blue are ideal for the colder months.

...Remember, embroidery, color, belts, patterns, and texture really make this style pop!

Here are some of our favorites in this style. While plenty of top designers make gorgeous skirts in the "pencil" or "high-waisted" style, you can find the same thing for cheaper in other stores.

- Fabulous find: Forever 21 makes a cute belted pencil that is perfect for a work-like environment. This skirt also comes in black and a fun leopard print! (And a steal, at $10.50)!
- This Burberry number is classic and chic.
- The unique ruffles on this Nanette Lepore  "Garden Party" skirt really makes it unique from the rest. This pick is perfect for spring! PS. It's available here at Nordstrom
- We also love the fun colors of this summertime DMBM cotton skirt

Oh, Dear...

It's Snarky Sapphire here, and right now she's about to slam the great Paula herself...  Slightly reminiscent of what your divorced-five-times grandma would wear to a funeral...

She's already gotten a few hits for this, but really?  Mermaid theme?  No thanks.

Splash of Spring

It's true, spring is a sign that summer is coming, but sometimes spring can sneak a surprise attack weather-wise, with a bit of chill and maybe some April (or May) showers, too. Sorry, but for spring storms, your lightweight cardigans and shorts aren't going to cut it, and your peacoat from winter is going to be too heavy.
However, a trench coat is light yet stylish. Overwhelmed by all the different styles? Here are some of our favorite spring cover-ups:
- Burberry makes a gorgeous, classic, and smart double-breasted trench in navy with beautiful accents like buttons and cuffs
- Skirted trenches are dressier and have more volume and a flowier hem (perfect to cover up a dress!)
- An empire waist is chic and elegant
- Don't have enough for something designer? (Don't worry, neither do we). Gap makes a lovely, lightweight belted jacket in a playful spring yellow that's only $49.99

Not big on plain colors like the classic camel, navy, and black? No worries. Play up the solid
colors in your coat by adding bold, bright shoes or a cute scarf (Burberry scarves are great, adding pattern and color). Here are some fun, colorful
 coats that we love:

- Betsey Johnson's polka dot trench is cute and casual (right)

- The dramatic collar and buttons on this Soia & Kyo belted hem coat adds flair and class to your outfit.  (below)

   - We're loving the simple, tailored look of this A+ coat by Shelli Segal. The unique trim, sash, and collar just make this coat pop. (below)

- Steve Madden's giraffe print trench is super-fun and brings a vibrant pattern a splash of color.
Remember, boldly patterned umbrellas and fun wellies also spice up a spring storm!
